My First Job

If you're perceptive, you'd know from the title that I got the job. Yesterday (Thursday) morning I got a call at *checks phone* 9:37am. Of course I was still asleep, but not that asleep that I couldn't clear my throat to sound like I had been awake all along, so if someone were to call me early in the morning, waking me up it had better be good news, and fortunately it was, I got the job and was then emailed details. My title is now Technical Support Specialist for Datacom, which sounds pretty special but basically I'll be taking phone calls from people who have internet problems, that'll be fun, for a while.

So now I have to go through two weeks of in depth training that starts on Monday, which I knew I would have to do but at the same time don't want to do because that means I'll miss out on Uni classes and small groups on Monday. But thats the price you pay for work I suppose. The job is at North Ryde, which I've heard is fun to get to, by public transport or by car. I think on Monday I'll be driving, just to get to the place to begin with, since I don't know how to get there via public transport yet. It doesn't help that I don't know what time the training finishes, I was told it was either 5 or 5:30, which to me is a big difference as I have stuff on from 6pm onwards from Monday to Thursday (Hybrid Martial Arts & Japanese)

I like how I haven't started working yet and I'm already complaining, best attitude ever!
Oh, and for those wondering "Hey, haven't you worked before David you stupid liar?", I say to you, "Yes, I have, and I'm not a liar!". But this is different, the other times I've worked is only because I had connections in which to help me get those jobs, and I didn't work at those jobs for very long at all. This time, I found the job myself, applied for it myself, got the job myself, all by myself (I sound so selfish now haha) so this is essentially MY first job, and I plan to stick with it for at least the whole year.

Also, I've added a new label "Work Watch", just to let you guys know how my job is going, because I think we all know how fun work can be am I right? Yeah...I'm so right.

My friend worked at datacom a few years ago - supporting windows.

It's cruisy because he spent most of his day emailing me in between/during calls. Their bonus system is cool, he got a PSP!If you get enough positive feedback from customers, then you get $x amount. I think you accumulate points and if you get up to a certain score, you get rewarded... but this was a few yrs ago, the bonus system might have changed since then.

btw, you're probably a Scrubs fan, the episode titles start with "my ..."

Oooh, I haven't heard anything of a bonus system so maybe it's gone. Or the fact that the client is Telstra means they're being a bit stingy.

Yeah, I am a Scrubs fan, when I started blogging back in 2005 I couldn't think of title's for my entries, and decided to go with the Scrubs system of "My..." to get my creative juices flowing. I suppose that restricts me quite a bit, but I've become used to it and can't be bothered changing.
